Maleny Wood Expo

The Maleny Wood Expo offers two days of clean country family fun at Maleny Showgrounds in the Sunshine Coasts beautiful Hinterland.

From chainsaws to fine furniture, the Maleny Wood Expo is all about sustainable use of our timber resources, highlighted through the amazing work of our talented regional woodworkers.

See Maleny come alive as the mobile mills fire up and the smell of fresh-cut sawdust wafts across the Showgrounds, bringing our timber heritage into the 21st century.

This year’s feature exhibition is the 2011 Wootha Prize Exhibition – a woodworking competition with a conscience. 2011 will be the fourth Wootha Prize, with entrants vying for prizemoney, awards and the honour of seeing their name on the Perpetual Trophy.

But back to the timber …

Stan Ceglinski will demonstrate the age-old skills used by white settlers who came to the Blackall Range in the mid 1800’s to harvest the red cedars.

Mobile millers will convert massive tree trunks into slabs and planks with high-powered machinery and friendly camaraderie to the delight of Expo visitors.

See lovingly crafted products by furniture-makers and toy-makers, musical instrument-makers and box-makers, whittlers, carvers and everything in between - all crafted from sustainably harvested native, weed and recycled timbers.

“Live action at this year’s Expo will include demos by chainsaw, trade and woodworking tool and equipment experts,” says Expo Coordinator, Steve McLeish.

“For our young visitors we have candle-making and face-painting, great street theatre and loads more. Expo crowds can sit back and enjoy local musicians at the Taste Maleny Stage."

Hosted by Barung Landcare, the Maleny Wood Expo is supported by Sunshine Coast Council and many local businesses.

Cost is $12 for adults, concessions availble and children under 16 are FREE.
