Sunday May 1st is not only the start of Spring, and a holiday weekend straight after Easter and Anzac Day, but it is also the start of the Pleasant Sunday Afternoon (PSA) concert series for 2011.
These very popular variety concerts are held from 2pm on the first Sundays of the months from May up to October 3rd 2011, with different artists each month. The venue is the CCSA Hall in Nutley St., Caloundra, and up to 200 people attend at a cost of only $9 which includes afternoon tea.
In the merry month of May, the variety could hardly be more diverse! The Caloundra Chorale will showcase their harmonious expertise in 4 songs, whilst Neil Booth's assortment of guitarists-come-singers will be more of a comedy act rather than quality act. It will certainly be an enjoyable surprise whatever they do.
Helen Duffy is the Chorale's femme fatale in their current Maltese Falcon play: however, she will sing songs from her next lead role in the Chorale's Little Shop of Horrors.
Other artists are brilliant young flautist Jessica Norup, award winning actress Maralyn Davies, singers Bev Gourlay and Aart Schouten.
Of special interest will be the actors Ben Adams and Amanda Swanson (respectively seen as the Minstrel and Nanny Craddock in the Chorale's 2011 Pantomine Sleeping Beauty) who will sing for a change, instead of just prancing around the stage. They promise some comedy songs.
There'll be a Pachelbel Canon duet on piano and cello, Sophia's Flight of the Bumblebee on keyboard, and the concerts always end with Bev singing the verse and testing the audience with "What song is this".
These concerts raise funds for the Caloundra Chorale, and have been in operation for approx 30 years. They're always full of fun and talent, so come along on May Day (Sunday 1st) to the CCSA Hall, Nutley St., Caloundra. There's no need to book, just arrive around 1.30pm to get a seat and buy a raffle ticket.
