The first ever Sunshine Coast HYPA Hip Hop Festival is to be held over 2 days on the 30th & 31st of Oct 2010. With the aim to create a sustainable, annual hip hop culture event, the inaugural HYPA Festival kicks of with some huge names bringing their talents to the Sunshine Coast for the first time.

With the events grounding in hip hop dance styles it has grown to incorporate all elements of hip hop culture and evolved into what is now HYPA. The hip hop aspects of dance, breakdance, graffiti, beatboxing, musicianship and MCing will all be celebrated at this collaboration of like minded artists within this high caliber event.

The 2-day festival will contain 3 major events:

Dance competition, inviting all dance schools, schools and indepentant dance crews within the south east Queensland area to come and compete at a high standard to promote themselves to industry professionals, have fun and have their talents recognized.

HYPA night, performance showcase where everyone is invited to come and watch some of the best in the industry entertain. With recent TV show ʻSo You Think You Can Danceʼ getting spectators in the millions, having the same dancers performing right here on the Sunshine Coast alongside hip hop musicians, MCʼs, bboys and live artists is sure to generate hype for this night of celebration.

Workshops, the entire second day is dedicated to learning from the proʼs with ʻSo You Think You Can Danceʼ choreographer Travers Ross and contestants Lamb, Ilona, Jess Stokes and Gaz taking workshops in the different styles of hip hop dance.

Kingdom graffiti, a Christian based graffiti organization will be taking workshops on the artform, offering youth a way to improve and express this talent in a legal environment whilst learning to respect the community as well refining their craft. Beatboxing and musicianship workshops with some of the best Australia have to offer will also be available to attendees of this unique festival lineup.

This event is about offering something positive for the youth to be a part of, its about the coming together of a dance and hip hop community, its about providing high caliber professional workshops in the local area, showcasing local talent and offering real opportunities for local stars to get recognized. This event promises to be lucrative to Sunshine Coast tourism and generate trade for local business. HYPA is the first of its kind in Queensland, and with the growth in the industry, and on the Sunshine Coast, aims to become one of Australiaʼs premier dance events in coming years.
