Pleasant Sunday Afternoon Concert - August 7th

Sun 7 Aug 2011

Where else can one go to hear top-class singers and instrumentalists performing at a local concert, other than at a Pleasant Sunday Afternoon (PSA) concert?? These PSA concerts are held on the first Sundays of the months from May up to October each year, with different artists each month. The venue is the CCSA Hall in Nutley St., Caloundra, and approx 180 - 200 people attend and enjoy them. And, they cost $9 admission - which includes a delicious afternoon tea (or only $5 for Friends of the Chorale and Members).

At the August 7th concert, starting at 2pm, the line-up includes soprano Sarah Sullivan and baritone Colin Butcher who have each won many Champion of Champion Awards at QLD Eisteddfodau. Both have recently appeared in the Caloundra Chorale's most succssful musical "Little Shop of Horrors" - Sarah as a blonde singer/story-teller, and Colin as the enticing, magnificent plant voice! They will present a selection of classical favourite songs that will showcase their magnificent voices and acting ability.

Other artists are: popular Irish entertainer Ken O'Flaherty who will strum and sing some lively tunes, young Eloise Mueller performing songs from the Musicals, and Trevor Mitchell's crooning of Dean Martin type songs will surely please everyone. Lisa Plucknett has been described at "The Pam Ayres of the Sunshine Coast" because of her tongue in cheek humour and ability to write very funny poems - often about catastrophes. She will recite some of these poems from her 4 published books. Iain Maclean has gathered a string quartet of brilliant players to perform a classical Bach item, and then a lively "Caprice" as a contrast.

Completing the wonderful smorgasboard of artists are the 3 regulars - soprano Bev Gourlay, baritone Aart Schouten and pianist Neil Booth, and also 2 surprise acts from Brian and Pat Cook. It will be an exciting afternoon of variety, top class acts and lots of fun, as usual.

These concerts raise funds for the Caloundra Chorale, and have been in operation for approx 30 years. Please check out the Chorale's website on www.caloundrachorale.com.au
