

The Shane Stewart Memorial Fishing Competition was founded by the Shane Stewart family in memory of their son and brother Shane, who was killed in a boating accident in Pumicestone Passage in 1999. Shane was a passionate fisherman. The event was originally hosted by the Moffatt Beach Deep Sea Fishing club and on the demise of said club, the Stewart family requested Caloundra Coast Guard take responsibility for it.
The competition has an open and a junior section. Prizes are awarded to the best catch in species, with 9 species recognised this year in the open section and 4 in the junior section. 'Spot' prizes are awarded and a draw to win one of 3 Viking Kayaks is conducted for the "Open "section for registered competitors and a draw to win one Viking Kayak is conducted for the "Junior" section registered compeditors .Our major sponsors this year include Viking Kayak, Caloundra Power Boat Club and Caloundra Bendigo Community Bank.
Competitors fish from pm Friday to am Sunday and may weigh-in their catch progressively over that time. Adherence to Queensland Fishing Regulations is monitored by an officer of The Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries.. The Junior Competition is judged on Sunday morning, with the Open competition judging and major prizes awarded on Sunday afternoon at the Caloundra Power Boat Club.
Competitors, their families and spectators may purchase food and beverages at the weigh-in site, the Caloundra Power Boat Club.
Public support for this competition assists the Australian Volunteer Coast Guard QF4 Caloundra to provide service to the boating community of our region.
